PM’s Office: Private Sector Employees Advised to Return Home
In an urgent announcement released on Wednesday, 30th April, by the Prime Minister’s office, the National Crisis Committee convened in an emergency session this morning, presided over by the Cabinet Secretary, to address the alarming deterioration of weather conditions. Over 100 millimetres of rain have already been recorded in certain regions of the island, with a marked decline in conditions anticipated between 2 PM and 4 PM today.
The warning for torrential rains remains in effect and may be extended depending on the evolving situation.
Consequently, the directive for public sector employees to remain at home has been reaffirmed.
As for the private sector, including banks, the National Crisis Committee has resolved that all employees should be permitted to return to their homes at the earliest opportunity.
Law enforcement, fire services, and ambulance teams are on high alert, particularly in areas at risk of flooding.
The police will also ensure the smooth flow of traffic during this critical time.
Essential services remain operational, and public transport will continue to function for three hours following this announcement.
The National Crisis Committee is closely monitoring the situation and will keep the public informed of any necessary updates.
In a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, it was reiterated that the National Crisis Committee, under the leadership of the Cabinet Secretary, convened urgently this morning to assess the prevailing meteorological conditions in Mauritius.
According to meteorological services, the rainfall has already exceeded 100 millimetres in some areas, with a further deterioration expected.
The torrential rain warning is still in place, with severe worsening anticipated between 2 PM and 4 PM this afternoon, 30th April.
Should the weather conditions necessitate, the torrential rain warning may be extended.
Given the circumstances, the decision for public sector employees to remain at home is upheld.
Regarding the private sector, including banking institutions, the National Crisis Committee has determined that all employees should be allowed to return home as swiftly as possible.
The Committee continues to monitor the situation closely and will advise the public of any new measures that may be required.
Various units of the police force, fire services, and ambulance teams are prepared, especially in areas most likely to be affected by flooding.
The police will also manage traffic flow. All essential and emergency services are operating normally.
Public transport will continue to run for three hours following the issuance of this press release.
