IOC 5th Summit in Madagascar, Ramgoolam Meets Macron

In a moment steeped in significance, Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam engaged in a pivotal meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday, 24th April. This encounter unfolded against the backdrop of the 5th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), convened at the International Conference Centre in Ivato, Antananarivo, Madagascar.

It is imperative to note the dramatic turn of events surrounding President Macron’s intended visit to Mauritius, originally scheduled for the 24th and 25th of April.
This official trip has been postponed to November, as the French leader is now called to represent his nation at the funeral of Pope Francis, set to take place on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Rome, Italy.

Despite the changes in schedule, the meeting between Ramgoolam and Macron at the summit heralds a promising opportunity for strengthened ties and collaboration within the Indian Ocean region.
