In a significant reshuffle within the upper echelons of law enforcement, a breath of renewal has swept through the police hierarchy. Monday 21st April, four officers were elevated to the esteemed rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police: Rajcoomar Seebah, Mohunlall Madhow, Mohamad Ally Oozeer, and Soondeereine Veeramalay, all of whom previously held the title of Assistant Commissioner of Police. This pivotal appointment not only marks a milestone in their respective careers but also highlights their strategic roles within key units of the police force. Yet, amidst this advancement, the anticipation grows for the appointment of a woman to a senior position.

Rajcoomar Seebah has recently taken the helm of the Central Criminal Investigation Department, following his leadership of the Western Division.

His career has been meticulously crafted within specialised units, including the Mauritius Police Intervention Group, the Police Training School, and the Anti-Terrorism Cell.

He has also commanded the Counter Terrorism Unit, operating under the auspices of the Prime Minister’s office, tasked with the collection and analysis of intelligence related to terrorist threats.

His extensive field experience and operational intelligence acumen render him a trusted figure in safeguarding national security.

Meanwhile, Mohunlall Madhow was appointed last November to lead the National Security Service, a role he is intimately familiar with, having previously directed it on multiple occasions.

A respected intelligence analyst, he is lauded for his meticulousness, discretion, and professionalism.

His expertise in managing sensitive cases has made him a sought-after advisor for successive governments, and at one point, his name was even floated as a potential candidate for the position of Commissioner of Police.

Mohamad Ally Oozeer, until recently, served as the Divisional Commander for Port-Louis Metro North.

He has navigated a myriad of urban challenges, from maintaining public order to addressing security concerns in a densely populated area.

His command style, which deftly balances firmness with a community-oriented approach, has earned him the respect of both his colleagues and the local populace.

Lastly, Soondeereine Veeramalay was at the helm of the Central Division, another critical component of the police apparatus.

He has coordinated numerous public safety operations, ensuring order is maintained even in the most tense of circumstances.

A seasoned field operative, he has distinguished himself through his organisational skills and unwavering commitment to the values of discipline and service.

With these appointments, the police force stands poised for a transformative era, fostering hope for enhanced leadership and inclusivity in the pursuit of justice and security.
