1 Drunk Driver, 1 Crash: Family Escapes Petrol Station Disaster

In a harrowing incident that could have had dire consequences, a driver under the influence of alcohol careened off the road and collided with a petrol station shortly after 11pm on Sunday, 20th April, along the St-Jean route in Quatre-Bornes. The incident involved a 4×4 vehicle that violently struck a billboard situated within the confines of the station.
Eyewitness accounts suggested that the driver, accompanied by his family, lost control of the vehicle before hurtling into the station.
The impact was catastrophic, resulting in significant material damage: the front left side of the 4×4 was severely mangled, the left front tyre burst, and both a petrol pump and a telephone pole bore the brunt of the collision.
By the time law enforcement arrived at the scene, the driver, his partner, and their child had already vacated the premises, seeking medical attention at a private clinic.
Officers conducted their investigations while one officer remained to secure the area, awaiting the arrival of a towing team from the Special Mobile Force.
The driver was subsequently located at the clinic, where he presented with facial and chin injuries.
Once again, he was subjected to a breathalyser test by the Emergency Response Service, which returned a positive result.
Remarkably, he declined medical treatment. His partner received the necessary care, while their child, though unharmed, was kept under observation as a precautionary measure.
The owner of the petrol station arrived to assess the damage, although the financial implications of the incident have yet to be determined.
Fortunately, no other individuals were injured in this alarming episode.
An investigation has been launched to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this distressing affair.
