In a reflection on their inaugural year, the New Democrats (ND) convened a pivotal workshop at the Labourdonnais Waterfront, marking a significant milestone in their journey. Khushal Lobine, the party’s founder and a dedicated MP, reminded attendees that the ND was established on 18th April 2024. This workshop, he elucidated, was designed to further solidify the party’s framework.

“We have gathered individuals to form twelve commissions that we intend to establish on various themes,” Lobine stated with fervour.

“In a matter of weeks, the ND will also unveil a website.”

His vision for the party is not merely administrative; it is a clarion call for inclusivity, particularly in the empowerment of women within the party.

He emphasised that women constitute the majority, not merely to fulfil a quota, but to ensure their voices resonate within the political landscape.

Lobine also announced that a series of workshops would be held across the island in the near future, reinforcing the party’s commitment to grassroots engagement.

Adding her voice to the proceedings, party president Véronique Leu-Govind articulated a vision of a “party of the future,” where “the door is open to all.”

She poignantly remarked that a party lacking structure would be akin to a “Kite without a string” – a metaphor that underscores the chaos of an unorganised entity.

As the New Democrats embark on this ambitious journey, their resolve to create a structured, inclusive, and forward-thinking political force is palpable, promising a new chapter in the political narrative of the nation.
