Within the hushed, high-tech corridors of the Alpine F1 Team in France, a determined young woman stands out.

Niveshika Bickharry now graces the racing car of the Alpine F1 Team, alongside those of her fellow female colleagues.

Bickharry, 27, hails from Brisée-Verdière and has carved her niche as an industrial engineer.

Her journey began far from the European circuits, in the workshop of her parents, both entrepreneurs in the fields of mechanics and transport.

It was amidst disassembled engines, precision tools, and a familial passion that Niveshika cultivated an innate affinity for machinery from a young age.

“My father was my first source of inspiration,” she reveals. “I grew up in an environment deeply connected to mechanics, and it sparked my curiosity from childhood.”

This early exposure swiftly transformed into ambition. At Droopnath Ramphul State College, she distinguished herself with her analytical mind and insatiable thirst for knowledge.

She was acutely aware that she did not desire an ordinary future. Her dreams were steeped in high technology, innovation, industrial challenges, and, perhaps, cutting-edge engineering.

Driven by this vision, she departed from Mauritius to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in Germany, specialising in mechatronics.

It was here that the magic unfolded: she discovered how her theoretical knowledge resonated within the world of Formula 1.

“During my university years, I realised that F1 represents the pinnacle of engineering. Every concept learned becomes a reality in this realm where every millisecond counts.”

Her final year of study led her to France, where she subsequently enrolled at the Institut Supérieur de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace Supméca to undertake a Master’s in industrial engineering.

Yet again, she refused to merely absorb information; she engaged, explored, questioned, and, above all, sought a company that aligned with her values.

“I wanted to be part of an organisation where excellence, innovation, and humanity are at the core.

When I had the opportunity to join Alpine, it was the perfect alignment of my passion, skills, and aspirations.”

Niveshika Bickharry’s journey is not just a personal triumph; it is a beacon of hope and inspiration for aspiring engineers everywhere, proving that with determination and the right opportunities, dreams can indeed become reality.

Today, Niveshika holds the esteemed position of industrial engineer at Alpine Racing, where her mission is nothing short of transformative: to optimise processes, production methods, and maintenance protocols, thereby enhancing the quality, reliability, and efficiency of operations.

“This is a profession that demands constant self-challenge. There is no typical day; each dawn brings a new challenge, with shifting priorities, rapid decision-making, and an unwavering demand for precision,” she reflected, embodying the relentless spirit of the sport.

In a realm where pressure is a constant companion, many might falter.

Yet, Niveshika draws strength from it.

“The key lies in communication and self-confidence. You cannot do everything alone, especially in such a complex environment. Team spirit is fundamental,” she asserted, her conviction palpable.

Among the myriad projects she has contributed to, one stands out as particularly significant: a segment of the “Cost Cap” programme in collaboration with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).

This strategic initiative aimed to quantify the various energies utilised in engine production.

“It was a project that combined technical performance, regulatory rigor, and environmental commitment,” she explained.

Through this endeavour, she also gained insight into the environmental impact of engineering in high-level sport, a profound learning experience that has solidified her commitment to marrying technology with responsibility.

To work in Formula 1 is to exist in an environment where excellence is not merely an aspiration but a prerequisite for survival.

So, how does one manage the pressure in such a context? “Some days are more challenging than others.

I strive to remain calm and avoid rushing. Serenity is a valuable ally,” she shares, emphasising the importance of humility.

“We do not always have all the answers, and it is crucial to accept that. Taking a step back and questioning oneself is often the best way to progress.”

Despite her reluctance to embrace the title, Niveshika has become an unwitting ambassador for her island.

When her colleagues discover her Mauritian roots, their reactions range from surprise to curiosity.

“It often sparks wonderful discussions. I have the opportunity to speak about my country, its rich culture, and its talents.” feeling a profound responsibility to demonstrate that no matter one’s origins, anything is possible.

“If my journey can inspire even one young Mauritian to believe in their dreams, that will be my greatest achievement.”

Her remarkable ascent is underpinned by an unshakeable foundation: her family.

She speaks fondly of her parents: demanding yet nurturing, her father, calm and visionary, and her siblings, who provide daily motivation.

“As the eldest, I feel a responsibility to set an example. But in truth, it is they who inspire me.”

She also cherished the quiet yet unwavering love of her extended family—her grandmother, uncles, aunts, and cousins.

“I walk forward buoyed by all this love, faith, and humility they have instilled in me.”

Looking ahead, Niveshika envisions a future filled with ambition and clarity.

“I want to continue evolving in the realm of high performance, to enhance my technical and managerial skills. In the medium term, I see myself in more strategic roles, perhaps leading innovation projects.”

Yet, beyond her personal growth, she aspires to make this field more inclusive.

“I would like to help open doors, especially for women and young talents, as there is still much work to be done in this area.”

Behind this brilliant engineer lies a deeply human young woman, driven by values of perseverance, sharing, and mentorship.

To those who still hesitate to believe in their dreams, she offers a heartfelt message: “Do not be afraid to aim high.

The journey may be long, but believe in yourself. Surround yourself with the right people. Sometimes, a single opportunity can change an entire life. Have the courage to seize it.”
