In a display of solidarity, the president of the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM) and leader of the opposition, Joe Lesjongard, convened a press conference on Thursday, 17th April, to affirm the party’s unwavering support for their comrade, Renganaden Padayachy.

Lesjongard expressed his profound bewilderment at the arrest of Padayachy, which he contends is predicated on mere allegations.

“He was detained, released on the day of the Tamil New Year, only to be arrested once more.

This is nothing short of a witch hunt orchestrated by the current government,” he declared, his voice laden with indignation.

The opposition leader did not shy away from addressing the unfulfilled electoral promises of the government, lamenting, “The cost of living remains exorbitantly high, and even the fuel prices, which they pledged to reduce, remain unchanged.”

His words resonated with a sense of urgency, highlighting the discontent that simmers beneath the surface of Mauritian society.
