Metro Express Ltd (MEL) has apprehended approximately one hundred fare evaders each day since the launch of its audacious campaign, “To Frode, To Tase (You cheat, you will be caught.)”

This initiative, unveiled a mere fortnight ago by Osman Mahomed, the Minister of Land Transport, aims to combat the scourge of passengers travelling without valid tickets or a legitimate MECARD.

In a concerted effort to clamp down on this rampant issue, MEL has significantly bolstered its inspection operations, both within the stations and aboard the trains, relentlessly pursuing those who dare to defy the rules.

As Béatrice Bauda, Senior Communication and Marketing Officer of MEL, emphasised, the stakes are high: under the provisions of the Light Rail Act of 2019, any offender risks facing a hefty fine of up to 5,000 rupees.

This relentless pursuit of justice not only underscores the commitment of Metro Express to uphold the integrity of its services but also serves as a stark warning to those who might consider flouting the law.

The message is clear: the days of fare evasion are numbered, and the authorities are watching.
