New Era for Agaléga Students: 2 Main Exams at Home Country Considered

In an announcement during the ‘Assises de l’Éducation 2025‘, held on Tuesday, 15th April, at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute auditorium in Moka, the Minister of Education, Mahend Gungapersad, unveiled a groundbreaking initiative that promises to transform the educational landscape for the students of Agaléga.
During his recent visit to Cambridge in England, Minister Gungapersad took the bold step of formally requesting that Agaléga’s pupils be permitted to sit for their School Certificate (SC) and Higher School Certificate (HSC) examinations directly on their home archipelago.
This significant move is poised to alleviate the burdensome necessity for candidates to travel to Mauritius, a journey that has long been a barrier to equitable access to education.
This initiative is not merely a logistical adjustment; it represents a profound commitment to fostering fairness and inclusivity within the Republic’s educational framework.
By enabling Agaléga’s students to undertake their examinations in their own environment, the government is taking a decisive stride towards ensuring that every citizen, regardless of their geographical location, has the opportunity to pursue their academic aspirations without hindrance.
