The northern village of Pointe-des-Lascars is reeling from the tragic death of Ram Harrah, known as Sarkar, a 63-year-old retiree residing on Piat Street. Harrah drowned after going fishing on Thursday evening, April 10, around 6 p.m.

His wife raised the alarm when he failed to return home by 10 p.m. She informed the police that her husband had left on foot, as usual, to fish at a spot known as Flambeau, and noted that he should have been back by that time.

Assistance from villagers of Pointe-des-Lascars

A search was quickly initiated, with assistance from local villagers. Approximately at 1:15 a.m., Harrah’s body was discovered floating in the water about 400 meters from the shore.

Although Emergency Medical Assistance was called, the on-site doctor pronounced him dead at 2:14 a.m.

Following the instructions of Dr. Chamane, the Police Medical Officer, the body was transported to the morgue at Sir Anerood Jugnauth Hospital in Flacq for an autopsy conducted the following morning.

The post-mortem examination confirmed that Harrah’s death was due to asphyxia caused by drowning.
