Rs114 M Suitcase Allegations: Jugnauth’s Lawyer Calls Them Baseless

Me Raouf Gulbul, the legal representative of former Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, emerged from the offices of the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) this Friday – 11th April resolutely declaring, “These are mere allegations.” His client is currently embroiled in a scandal involving purported money laundering activities totalling Rs 114 million.
The controversy ignited when businessman Josian Deelawon alleged that Jugnauth had solicited him to securely store suitcases filled predominantly with cash, valued at Rs 113.8 million, alongside invoices and luxury watches.
Me Gulbul, however, dismissed these claims as nothing more than unfounded allegations.
When pressed by the press regarding another of his clients, Renganaden Padayachy, Me Gulbul reiterated his stance, emphasising that the accusations against the former Minister of Finance are similarly baseless.
Padayachy faces charges of abuse of power, suspected of facilitating an excessive payment of Rs 300 million by the Mauritius Investment Corporation (MIC) during the acquisition of shares in East Coast Hotel Investment Ltd, the management company of the Apavou Group’s Ambre Hotel.
This particular case dates back to May 2024, further entangling the former minister in a web of controversy.
