MIC Scandal: Padayachy Remains in Custody Until 17 April

Former Minister of Finance Renganaden Padayachy has been denied bail and will remain in custody until 17 April, when he is scheduled to appear before the court again.
This decision comes after the Financial Crimes Commission raised objections to his release during proceedings at the Port-Louis District Court on Thursday, 10th April afternoon.
Padayachy faces a provisional charge of “fraud by using position.”
His legal representative, Me Raouf Gulbul, has requested that his client be brought before the court on 14 April to discuss the progress of the ongoing investigation.
Padayachy’s Bail Motion
However, it is noteworthy that Me Gulbul has not yet filed a motion for his client’s bail at this juncture.
As the case unfolds, the implications for Padayachy and the broader political landscape remain to be seen, with many watching closely as the legal proceedings continue.
Speaking shortly after his client’s arrest by the Financial Crimes Commission following a formal interrogation, Bhadain stated, “My client exhibited remarkable courage by coming forward to provide his account, supported by evidence, in the interest of Mauritius.
The former Minister of Finance, Renganaden Padayachy, will have a great deal to answer regarding his actions and decisions. The entire nation will be shocked when it learns what truly transpired.”
