Mauritius to Expect Rain Showers till 10 PM

A weather warning has been issued for Mauritius, with heavy rain expected to persist until 10 PM tonight. This urgent advisory was communicated by the meteorological station at 4:30 AM on Monday, 7 April, as the atmospheric conditions across our region remain unsettled and humid, creating an environment ripe for sudden, intense showers, occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms.

This morning, we can expect a blend of overcast skies and sporadic clouds, with light showers anticipated primarily across the eastern and southern regions, as well as the central plateau.

However, as the day progresses, the sky is likely to darken further, unleashing rainfall that could intensify significantly.

These showers may range from moderate to heavy, and may bring with them the risk of localised thunderstorms.

Temperature readings are projected to vary from a maximum of 24 to 27 degrees Celsius on the central plateau, while coastal areas will experience slightly warmer conditions, between 29 and 32 degrees Celsius.

As night falls, clouds will persist, sometimes transforming into a more threatening overcast, with occasional showers expected across the eastern, southern, and elevated terrains. Minimum temperatures will dip to a cool 20 to 22 degrees Celsius on the plateau and range from 24 to 26 degrees along the coast.

The winds will blow from the east at around 20 km/h, while the sea is expected to become increasingly hazardous beyond the reefs, with swells from the south-west reaching an alarming height of 2.5 metres, making trips into open water inadvisable.

In light of these developments, authorities strongly advise residents to seek shelter during thunderstorms and to avoid open areas, hiking, or taking refuge beneath trees.

Additionally, venturing into regions prone to water accumulation is highly discouraged, and drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution on the roads due to potential visibility issues.

Call for vigilance and preparedness is advised. Stay safe.
