Christopher Lagane has been appointed as the president of the Athletes’ Commission at the Mauritius Olympic Committee, all while having previously chosen to take a sabbatical from international competition in 2025. The cyclist is determined to dedicate himself wholeheartedly to his new responsibilities.

“The election by my fellow Olympians is a tremendous honour. I am ready to give my all to be a worthy representative of athletes at the COM. My new role as president, even as I take a step back from international cycling next year, allows me to stay connected to the sport and contribute meaningfully to its progress,” Lagane asserted.

Soon to turn 27 in September, he made the choice to pause high-level competition after concluding the 2024 season with a commendable second place in the 2024 Tour of Algeria, followed by his first appearance at the Olympic Games in Paris, and ending the season with a fifth-place finish at the Tour of Reunion.

In a tightly contested election held on Saturday at Trianon, Lagane emerged victorious with three votes against Laurent L’Entêté’s two.

He seeks to bring fresh energy to the commission, placing the focus on the athletes’ voices within the COM. “We aspire for the athletes’ voices to resonate at the Mauritius Olympic Committee,” the cyclist passionately stated.

The Athletes’ Commission for the term spanning 2025 to 2028 also includes triathlete Laurent L’Entêté, weightlifter Marc Jonathan Coret, judoka Tracy Durhône, and badminton player Julien Paul.
