This weekend, Air Mauritius faced a significant upheaval as a malfunction in the NBV aircraft resulted in the cancellation of several flights. Passengers with plans to travel to Perth and London-Gatwick found their journeys abruptly disrupted due to critical mechanical faults.

The scene at the airports was one of confusion, as many travellers, already on-site or making their way, were caught off guard by the sudden cancellations.

Though the airline endeavoured to contact passengers by phone, many were left without information.

In lieu of direct communication, alerts were sent via SMS and email, but this did little to quell the frustration that was mounting.

Speaking to the media, Joel Toussaint, Communication Manager for Air Mauritius, provided clarity on the situation, stating that the NBV aircraft is currently under repair.

He expressed confidence that normal operations would resume within the next 12 hours.

Furthermore, he reported that passengers affected by the London-Gatwick cancellation had been accommodated in local hotels to ease the situation.

As the necessary repairs on the NBV continue, Air Mauritius anticipates that flight schedules will normalise by the end of the week.

However, the disappointment experienced over the weekend is a stark reminder of the unpredictability that can accompany air travel in the face of unexpected technical issues.
