New 30-Day Chikungunya Rules for La Réunion to Mauritius Travel

Between the 9th of April and the 8th of May 2025, a vital public health measure will be implemented for all travellers from La Réunion to Mauritius—a negative PCR test for Chikungunya will be obligatory. This important decision was confirmed during a government meeting, signalling a robust approach to protecting public health.

The regulations, termed “Health Assessment of Incoming Passengers from Reunion Island,” mandate that anyone travelling from La Réunion to the Republic of Mauritius—including non-Mauritian citizens, residents, air and sea crew members, and passengers merely transiting—must present a negative PCR test result prior to boarding their flights or ships.

In addition, these regulations encompass thorough health screenings upon arrival at both the ports and airports of Mauritius and Rodrigues. Travellers can expect to complete:

• A comprehensive questionnaire regarding their health and travel history,
• The submission of relevant documentation,
• Provision of contact information for immediate follow-up.

Any violation could result in a significant fine of up to Rs 10,000 and a potential prison sentence of as much as two years.
