This morning heralded the start of an official ministerial visit to Agaléga, a remote yet vibrant part of our nation. A governmental delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister Paul Bérenger, embarked on a noteworthy two-day journey to the archipelago on Thursday, 3 April. The group was flown by Air Mauritius on flight MK 2902, which also carried three elected representatives from Constituency No. 3: Eshan Juman, Aadil Ameer Meea, and Shakeel Mohamed.

This visit transcends mere oversight; it is filled with purpose. Mr. Mohamed, accompanied by a committed team from the Ministry of Housing and Lands, will concentrate on developing a sustainable urbanisation plan for Agaléga, with a distinct focus on addressing the urgent need for long-lasting housing solutions.

Also part of the delegation is Ajay Gunness, the Minister of National Infrastructure, alongside various officers from different ministries, all united in a shared mission: to evaluate and tackle the development needs of this beautiful archipelago.

Moreover, this visit carries personal significance for several Agaléans on board the flight.

Around ten local residents were returning home after spending a month in Mauritius for medical treatment.

Their return journey is not simply a geographical homecoming, but a poignant reminder of the challenges they face and the support they have sought.
