On Wednesday, 2nd April 2025, a delegation from the African Development Bank (AfDB) visited Prime Minister Dr. Navin Ramgoolam, marking a significant courtesy call. The esteemed group was led by Leila Mokaddem, the Director General for Regional Development, Integration, and Service Delivery for Southern Africa, and included key figures such as Moono Cynthia Mupotola, Deputy Director General, and Gerard Bussier, Executive Director.

In their discussions, Leila Mokaddem emphasised the crucial priorities of Mauritius and the invaluable support the AfDB could offer.

She reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to enhancing the business environment, advocating for essential structural reforms, and advancing vital infrastructure projects.

The conversation also delved into pivotal sectors, including water, energy, and port development, which are deemed essential for the country’s progress.

The delegation also confronted the pressing challenges Mauritius faces, particularly regarding debt management.

Moono Cynthia Mupotola, who additionally serves as the Country Manager, attentively noted the government’s priorities, eager to identify ways to fortify the business climate and facilitate necessary reforms over the short, medium, and long term. Infrastructure financing emerged as another critical topic of discussion.

The AfDB lauded Prime Minister Ramgoolam’s forward-thinking vision aimed at strengthening the nation’s economic resilience—a cornerstone for stimulating economic activity, generating employment, and improving the lives of the Mauritian populace.
