27 Ships Left Idle at Port: MPA Announces Sale of 5 Fishing Boats

The Mauritius Ports Authority (MPA) has taken firm steps to tackle the pressing issue of inactive fishing boats at Trou Fanfaron. Recently, Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam disclosed in Parliament that a staggering 27 boats have remained unused for over a year within the port area. In a bid to dispel the port’s unsavoury reputation as a resting place for abandoned vessels in this region of the Indian Ocean, the government has decided to sell these neglected crafts.
Interested buyers are invited to place their bids on the following fishing boats:
- Sea Wonder
- Armaan 1
- Putrajaya 33
- Roshan
- Marine Star
These boats can now be inspected at the Trou Fanfaron fishing port for any prospective buyers.
To arrange an inspection, inquiries should be directed to the port captain via email at k.newoor@mauport.com or by fax at +230 242 8314.
It is essential to point out that, in line with Article 32 (5) of the Ports Act of 1998, the Port Master issued a formal request on 16 January this year, asking the owner, agent, or representative of the inactive fishing boats to take appropriate measures to remove these vessels.
Due to non-compliance with this request, the Mauritius Ports Authority is moving forward with the sale of these idle fishing boats.
