In Coromandel: 4 Bus Drivers Fined After Anti-Pollution Checks

To tackle air pollution, a comprehensive inspection of diesel vehicle emissions took place in Coromandel on Tuesday, 1st April. The operation was led by Inspector Vishwanaden Amasay from the Environmental Police, with the support of Sergeants Appadu and Philogène, alongside officers Veeren, Goodur, and Troubadour, all under the watchful eye of Sub-Inspector Lebrasse.
The inspection uncovered alarming results, as four buses were found to exceed the legal opacity limit of 50%.
One bus from RHT emitted a concerning 62% opacity, while another registered an even more concerning 68.4%.
The situation grew graver still, as two additional buses were immediately taken off the road: one from UBS, with a staggering 98.5% opacity, and another from RHT, recorded at 84.4%.
All drivers implicated in this serious oversight were issued fines of Rs 2,000 each, underscoring the severity of the violations.
This initiative is part of a broader national campaign aimed at reducing air pollution and rigorously enforcing anti-pollution regulations for vehicles in circulation.
As the battle against environmental harm continues, this operation highlights the urgent need for cleaner air and greater accountability on our roads.
