25-Yr-Old Mauritian Ready to Shake Up Canadian Politics

As Canada prepares for its federal elections on 28th April 2025, a new and vibrant candidate is making waves within the Liberal Party: 25-year-old Laurent de Casanove, who hails from Mauritius.
De Casanove is actively engaging with citizens across the country, attentively listening to their concerns while articulating his vision for the future.
“The looming threat of tariffs from the United States puts thousands of jobs at risk here in Canada,” he asserted passionately.
“We must resolutely support our workers and businesses amid this uncertainty.
Additionally, I am committed to protecting the French language—not just in Quebec, but throughout Canada.
Immigration is another crucial issue; we need to enhance our support for newcomers, giving them every chance to succeed.
More broadly, I envision a society where everyone has equal access to opportunities, regardless of their background.”
Laurent’s political journey is already noteworthy.
He has worked as a press secretary for multiple federal ministers, including the Minister of Transport, the Minister of Diversity and Inclusion, and the Minister of Culture.
His experiences have brought him to the forefront of electoral campaigns, collaborating closely with MPs and ministers to represent the interests of the public.
“Ministers Anita Anand and Pablo Rodriguez have inspired me with their dedication and hands-on approach to political life.
Both are leaders from minority and immigrant backgrounds, serving as examples that inclusive and ambitious policies can truly change lives. This is the path I wish to follow,” he shared with fervour.
Arriving in Canada after completing his education at the French Lycée des Mascareignes, Laurent pursued further studies in political science, began his professional career, and attained Canadian citizenship.
“Currently, I reside in Quebec and engage in political activities in Ottawa, but my commitment to politics requires me to frequently travel across the country.
It is in Quebec that I aspire to represent the voices of the people in Parliament,” he added.
Laurent de Casanove is poised to be a compelling voice for change as he seeks to represent the diverse interests of Canadians in the upcoming federal elections.
