In the ongoing investigation into the death of Pravin Kanakiah, new revelations emerged during the 24th March judicial inquiry. Dr Satish Boolell, a leading forensic pathologist, was summoned to testify, shedding light on the possible circumstances surrounding the tragic demise of the former civil servant.

Dr Boolell recounted his professional examination of Mr Kanakiah’s body, which took place the day after his remains were discovered.

Speaking earnestly, he revealed that he had not conducted a second autopsy, citing a lack of permission from either the family or relevant authorities.

Most intriguingly, Dr Boolell suggested that Mr Kanakiah may have suffered a violent blow to the neck, raising grave questions about the nature of his death.

In a poignant addition to the proceedings, Outham Appadoo, Mr Kanakiah’s brother-in-law, also took the stand.

When questioned by the representative of the Director of Public Prosecutions, he was asked about the couple’s bank loan.

Appadoo recalled accompanying his sister in pursuing insurance claims to cover the loan, actions that were taken merely two days following Mr Kanakiah’s funeral.

To recall the timeline, the lifeless body of Pravin Kanakiah was tragically retrieved from the shores of Gris-Gris on 11 December 2020, leaving a community grappling with questions and seeking answers.

The next session of the judicial inquiry is scheduled for 2 April, where further detail and testimony are anticipated as this compelling case continues to unfold.
