Tania Diolle’s Resignation After 60-0 Debacle Shakes ex-Government Ally

On Saturday, 22nd March 2025, former MP under the MSM/ML/MPM Government Tania Diolle delivered shocking news, announcing her immediate resignation from the role of Secretary-General of the Mouvement Patriot Morisien (MPM).
In an emotional letter to party leader Alan Ganoo, she expressed her concerns over a profound ideological divide and a disturbing decline in leadership within the party. Her departure resonates as a significant repudiation of the current political trajectory.

In her letter, dated the same day, Diolle described her decision as one that was “carefully considered,” arising from escalating disagreements with the party direction since the general elections of 2024.
She lamented the widening “ideological and political gap” between herself and the party leadership, despite her sincere attempts at fostering dialogue.
Additionally, she criticised unilateral decisions made without proper consultation, actions which she perceived as indicative of a political vision she can no longer endorse.
Diolle’s ‘Disappointment’
The situation is further exacerbated by Diolle’s disappointment in Ganoo’s leadership, considering as ill-equipped to confront the contemporary challenges facing the nation.
She voiced her regret that the party’s founding values have been compromised by personal interests, ultimately at the expense of the national good.
With a tone laden with disappointment, Diolle concluded her letter by reflecting on her years of commitment to the party and extending her best wishes to the MPM in its future political ventures.
This resignation marked a crucial turning point within a party already weakened by recent 60-0 electoral debacle.
It raises urgent questions about the MPM’s capacity to rejuvenate itself as the political landscape in Mauritius evolves, especially with the municipal elections looming on 4th May.

Arvin Boolell Responds: “Inevitable and Her Right”

In the aftermath of Diolle’s resignation, Arvin Boolell, the Minister of Agro-Industry, remarked, “It was inevitable and it is her right,” during a wreath-laying ceremony at the Samadhi of Sir Satcam Boolell in Vallée des Prêtres on Sunday, 23rd March.
He reiterated an open-door policy, inviting everyone to join in strengthening the governing alliance for the upcoming municipal elections.
Yet, he assured that the loyalty and determination of the Alliance du Changement’s members would yield results in this electoral contest, emphasising their commitment to strong female representation in the forthcoming polls.
As Mauritius’s political scene faces potential upheaval, the ramifications of Tania Diolle’s departure from the MPM cast a long shadow, prompting observers to consider the party’s future and the evolving dynamics of leadership within this changing landscape.
