Rs77.9 Million Ventilator Deal Under Investigation Amid Controversy

In a significant development, Defi Media rectifies an earlier report concerning the investigation into the acquisition of ventilators from Pack and Blister. It was, in fact, Dr Vijayesing Dinassing who appeared for questioning at the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC), not Dr Ashwamed Dinassing as initially stated.

Defi Media extends heartfelt apologies to Dr Ashwamed Dinassing for this mistake.

Dr Vijayesing Dinassing’s hearing wrapped up just before 1 PM, forming part of a wider inquiry into the procedures followed for procuring ventilators amid the Covid-19 crisis.

In March 2020, a remarkable contract valued at 77.9 million rupees was awarded to this company to supply ventilators intended for patients battling Covid-19.

However, the FCC has expressed grave concerns, suggesting that this purchase may have resulted in considerable financial losses for officials, as the equipment delivered has been classified as unusable.

Only last week, Dr Doomun, who was in charge of procurement at the Ministry of Health, was also called in for questioning.

He stated that he had warned the High-Powered Committee on Covid-19 against moving forward with the purchase of these ventilators.

The implications of this investigation could have far-reaching consequences, highlighting the critical importance of oversight in such pivotal decisions.
