14th Month Pay: MRA Distributes Rs 700+ Million to 6,781 Employers

With the aim of alleviating economic hardships, the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) has allocated an impressive Rs 765,726,216 to 6,781 eligible employers through the Special Allowance for 2024, commonly known as the ’14th-month bonus’. This governmental initiative is crafted to assist employers facing financial strains, enabling them to provide this vital additional salary to their employees.
To ensure the application process is efficient for qualifying businesses, the MRA launched an online platform on their official website (www.mra.mu) in December 2024, simplifying the submission of applications for those who meet the designated criteria.
The Special Allowance targets various employer categories and is intended to support full-time employees with a basic monthly salary capped at Rs 50,000. The eligible groups include:
- Businesses focused on exports,
- Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with an annual turnover not exceeding Rs 100 million for the fiscal year 2023-2024,
- Charitable organisations,
- Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) registered with the National Social Inclusion Foundation,
- Registered religious organisations,
- Trade unions, as well as
- Companies operating in the business process outsourcing (BPO), security, cleaning services, and construction sectors, provided their annual turnover does not exceed Rs 750 million for the 2023/2024 fiscal year.
This initiative not only highlights the MRA and government’s dedication to supporting workers during challenging times but also reaffirms the crucial role that these employers play in preserving livelihoods across Mauritius.
