Power Demand Soars to 547MW, CEB Warns of of Imminent Power Cuts

Following escalating energy needs, electrical power consumption soared to an alarming peak of 547 megawatts, Wednesday 19 March. This figure stands in stark contrast to the usual average of 500 megawatts, as reported by the Central Electricity Board (CEB).
With this significant surge in demand, the CEB foresees further strains on the electrical network in the days to come.
In response, the CEB has issued an urgent call for vigilance, demanding all subscribers to exercise temperance in their energy usage.
This surge has been attributed to the sweltering temperatures and notably high humidity levels that have persisted since early this week.
Power Cuts
The repercussions of this mounting demand have already begun to manifest, with the distribution network experiencing disruptions that have at times compelled CEB teams to implement temporary power cuts in order to carry out essential repairs.
Furthermore, erratic weather conditions have exacerbated the already fragile stability of our energy supply, as acknowledged by the CEB.
Thierry Ramasawmy, the Corporate Communication Manager of the CEB, has raised the alarm regarding the precarious state of our energy situation, expressing grave concerns over its imminent deterioration.
He is appealing to the civic responsibility and patriotism of the public, stating:
“It is essential to adopt the right reflexes and to reduce electricity consumption immediately.”
The call to action is clear: the community must unite in our efforts to conserve energy for the good of all.
