ENL Group Invests Rs 160 Million in New Tea Venture

In a significant move that reflects the evolving ambitions of the Mauritian conglomerate, the ENL Group has officially embarked on its tea production journey in Valetta. The launch took place on the 19th of March, marking a new chapter in the company’s diversification strategy.
To initiate this ambitious project, 600,000 cuttings have been imported from Kenya, laying the foundation for extensive tea cultivation in the area.
Over the next five years, ENL plans to gradually increase its tea plantations, expanding across a generous 500 acres in Valetta.
With an investment of Rs 160 million, this endeavour is central to ENL’s strategy of enhancing agricultural resilience in Mauritius, diversifying local crops, and decreasing the nation’s dependency on tea imports, which currently make up nearly 30% of tea consumed on the island.
At the launch ceremony, the Minister of Agro-Industry, Arvin Boolell, participated in a meaningful act by planting seedlings, symbolically marking the start of this exciting venture.
Boolell emphasised the critical importance of strengthening local production and highlighted the transformative potential of this initiative for the agricultural sector in Mauritius.
As the ENL Group embarks on its tea production journey, it not only embraces a cherished agricultural tradition but also positions itself as a forward-thinking leader in promoting sustainable practices within the local economy.
