Dan Maraye has officially concluded his tenure as the Ombudsperson for Financial Services. His four-year term ended earlier this February, having begun in March 2021 when he succeeded Mardayah Kona Yerukunondu, who then became the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Mauritius.

In a statement to the Défi Media Group, Maraye explained that he opted not to extend his contract, a decision he had anticipated during his initial press conference upon assuming the role.

When reflecting on his achievements as Ombudsperson for Financial Services, he confidently noted that the four annual reports published during his tenure speak for themselves.

“I leave it to the public to evaluate what I have contributed concerning good governance, transparency, and accountability,” he remarked.

Maraye also underscored the strong relationships he built with banks and insurers throughout his term, while acknowledging that some of his decisions may not have been well-received by everyone.
