Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Warning for Mauritius Until 10pm
The Meteorological Services of Mauritius has issued a warning that heavy rain is expected this 18 March 2025 from 11:00 am until 10:00 pm. Active cloud formations linked to an unstable weather system are making their way towards the south-west, creating an atmosphere thick with anticipation.
Throughout the day, conditions are set to remain warm, humid, and unstable, which will encourage the development of troublesome clouds.
In the afternoon, moderate to heavy showers, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms, are predicted to begin over the western areas and the central plateau.
These showers will gradually extend to other regions, especially in the north-west, and may continue into the evening.
There is a significant risk of water accumulation in low-lying areas, increasing the chance of localised flooding.
Furthermore, visibility will be compromised in certain regions due to fog and heavy rainfall, leading to potentially dangerous conditions.
In response to these warnings, residents are strongly advised to follow these safety guidelines during storms:
- Remain indoors and avoid open spaces, hiking, marine activities, and taking shelter under trees or tall structures.
- Stay away from areas that are susceptible to water accumulation.
- Exercise caution on the roads, as visibility may be reduced due to rain and fog.
