In an inspiring initiative, Transinvest Construction Limited aims to promote gender equality and highlight the crucial contributions women make in the construction sector. Coinciding with International Women’s Day, this two-week awareness programme features a series of forums and discussions at Transinvest’s offices and its construction sites. The focus is on challenging gender stereotypes while advocating for sustainable inclusion of women in this traditionally male-dominated field.

As the construction sector welcomes an increasing number of women, Transinvest is emerging as a leading force in Mauritius, proudly employing a workforce that consists of 10% women—a remarkable achievement in the local construction landscape.

Nevertheless, Transinvest’s commitment to inclusivity extends well beyond the workplace.

By visiting Coromandel Government School, the company aims to share its message within the community, illustrating that construction is an accessible career path for all.

“There will be moments when biases may attempt to hinder you, and the doubts of others may seek to discourage you.

However, if you believe in yourself and persist, you can accomplish remarkable things and dismantle barriers,” said Stessy Chowrimootoo, the Communications Manager and Talent Acquisition Lead.

“It’s crucial for women looking to enter this profession to persevere and inspire young girls and boys who may wish to follow in their footsteps.”

Transinvest’s outreach to Coromandel Government School demonstrates its commitment to fostering gender inclusivity in the professional realm.

On the construction sites, women at Transinvest are playing a pivotal role in changing perceptions within the industry, proving that with respect, equality, and confidence, they can thrive in this arena.

Among these pioneering women is Nindy Salomon, the sole female employee working on scaffolding.

She remarked, “At Transinvest, I receive respect as both a woman and an employee, without any discrimination.”

Amanda Sans-Soucis also expressed her pride in being accepted by her male colleagues on site.

“Every morning, I wake up knowing my value is recognised. It propels me forward in life,” she noted.

Sybella Marie shared her own experiences working on various sites where women often face disrespect and are assigned to domestic tasks.

“I take pride in my position at Transinvest, where my work is finally appreciated,” she affirmed.

A Commitment to Lasting Equality

Transinvest’s dedication to including women goes beyond a one-time celebration; it translates into concrete actions aimed at promoting equal opportunities, skill development, and professional growth for its female staff.

The company is committed to raising awareness, providing training, and mentoring female talent to cultivate a diverse and balanced workforce.

Through this initiative, Transinvest is sending a strong message: construction is a field for everyone.

This commitment not only uplifts women but also fortifies the industry as a whole. As Stessy Chowrimootoo stated, “An inclusive industry is a more robust industry.”
