Ile-aux-Bénitiers: 3 Days Restricted Access for Cleanup Operations

Entry to Île-aux-Bénitiers will be entirely restricted starting Thursday, 20th March 2025, due to upcoming operations aimed at the removal of unauthorized structures. This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Ministry of Housing and Lands on Tuesday, 18th March.

The operation will be carried out by members of the Special Mobile Force, in collaboration with the National Coast Guard and the Mauritius Police Force.

Given the sensitive nature of these operations, access to the island will be prohibited for the duration of the work and until further notice.

Authorities are urging the public to be understanding and cooperative, as this will ensure the safety of all and facilitate the successful execution of these crucial activities.

The Ministry highlighted that this initiative is designed to protect the island’s environment, including its diverse flora and fauna, ensuring their long-term conservation.

The safety of the community and the preservation of our natural surroundings remain paramount, as stated by the Ministry.
