Former Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth was spotted leaving the Oberoi Hotel this morning, 12th March, following a private meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This sighting, which caught the attention of onlookers, took place while Modi is residing at the hotel during his visit to Mauritius.

As the leader of the MSM and past Prime Minister, Jugnauth’s meeting with Modi was not included on the official itinerary.

Joe Lesjongard, the opposition leader and current president of the MSM, confirmed in a statement to reporters that Jugnauth indeed had a closed-door discussion with Modi.

Interestingly, Modi was initially scheduled to meet only with Lesjongard, adding an air of mystery to this unexpected encounter.

Following these private meetings, Modi made his way to the National Assembly, where a delegation meeting was on the agenda.

At this event, several memoranda of understanding are anticipated to be signed, alongside the e-inauguration of various development initiatives financed by India.

Among these are the health centre in Cap Malheureux and other essential infrastructures in Mauritius, aimed at fostering significant advancement in the region.

As the political scene evolves, speculation arises concerning the ramifications of Jugnauth’s clandestine talks with Modi and their potential impact on the future of Mauritian politics.
