Births in Mauritius Decline Slightly to 12,089 in 2024

According to Statistics Mauritius, there has been a slight decline in the number of births on the island, with figures dropping from 12,097 in 2023 to 12,089 in 2024. This information was shared in a report released on Tuesday, 11 March. Interestingly, alongside this decrease, the crude birth rate in the country has increased modestly, rising from 10 to 10.1.

In Rodrigues, the birth tally stood at 764 in 2024, compared to 775 the year before.

Throughout the Republic of Mauritius, a total of 12,853 births were recorded in 2024, reflecting a minor decrease from 12,872 in 2023.
