Celebrations at Champ-de-Mars: Bus & Metro Fares Halved on 12th March

On Tuesday, 11th and Wednesday, 12th March, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Mauritius, gracing the nation as the honourable guest at the flag-raising ceremony on the 12th. This significant event will take place at noon at Champ-de-Mars in Port-Louis. Following the ceremony, a vibrant cultural programme will unfold, showcasing the rich tapestry of Mauritian culture, with local artists taking to the stage to celebrate our diversity.
The theme for this year—marking the 57th anniversary of independence and the 33rd anniversary of Mauritius becoming a republic—is “As One People, As One Nation.”
This resonant phrase draws inspiration from our national anthem, reinforcing our unity as a nation.
To ensure that all Mauritians can partake in this momentous occasion, the Council of Ministers has put plans in place.
On Friday, 7th March, it was announced that bus and metro fares will be halved for the public, two hours before and two hours after the ceremony.
This reduced fare will apply both to journeys to and from Champ-de-Mars.
Moreover, children under the age of 13 will travel for free during this time on the same routes, encouraging families to join in the celebrations.
