Vigilance for Severe Rain & Heavy Swells, Cyclone Alert Lifted

As the skies darken over Mauritius, the nation is bracing itself for severe weather, with the meteorological services issuing a warning this morning at 8:00 AM. A heavy rain alert is now in effect, continuing until 7:00 PM tonight, 28th February 2025. Fortunately, there is currently no cyclone warning in place.
The twenty-third and final cyclone bulletin for Mauritius was released , confirming that the cyclone alert has been lifted as per the directives of the National Crisis Committee.
However, the remnants of Cyclone Garance are still casting a shadow over our island, as its cloud bands continue to influence the weather.
Residents can expect numerous showers, which may range from moderate to heavy, coupled with isolated thunderstorms.
These rainfall events pose a risk of temporary water accumulations and potential flooding in susceptible areas.
Winds will blow from the north at about 40 km/h, with gusts possibly reaching up to 80 km/h.
The seas remain extremely turbulent, with swells measuring between 5 to 7 metres beyond the reefs.
Furthermore, a storm surge could lead to coastal flooding, particularly in the low-lying areas of the north and west.
Under these conditions, authorities strongly advise against venturing out to sea or visiting the beaches.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and to adhere closely to forthcoming updates from the Mauritius meteorological services as the situation unfolds.
Stay safe and informed.
