Ready, Set, Go! Businesses Resume Operations Despite Heavy Rain Warning

In the wake of recent adverse weather conditions linked to Cyclone Garance, Business Mauritius has confirmed that work will resume normally across all sectors, taking into account the extensive damages reported.
This announcement follows the issuance of a “termination bulletin” by the meteorological services, signaling the end of the severe weather that has impacted the region.
“We are pleased to announce that business operations can return to regular schedules,” said a representative from Business Mauritius. “However, it is crucial to prioritize safety and encourage flexibility in operations where necessary. Businesses should remain vigilant as they assess the extent of any damage.”
However, the Met Services issued a Heavy Rain Watch Bulletin for Mauritius on Friday 28 February 2025, valid till 7pm today.
According to the Met Services, localised showers, moderate to heavy at times with thunderstorms are expected over the island.
“There may be water accumulations in flood prone areas. The visibility will be reduced due to fog and showers in certain regions,” it said.

The resumption of normal activities, however, applies primarily to the private sector. Public sector entities are advised to proceed with caution, assessing their specific situations before fully resuming operations.
Business Mauritius has emphasized the importance of adapting to conditions on the ground and ensuring that employee safety remains the top priority.
