NLTA: 15 Days to Renew Vehicle Road Tax Without Penalties

Due to recent cyclone conditions that have disrupted daily activities, the National Land Transport Authority (NLTA) has issued an urgent reminder to all owners of motor vehicles and trailers. In light of these extraordinary circumstances, the NLTA has announced that the renewal of vehicle licenses / Road Tax (MVL) for those set to expire within 15 days must now be completed at NLTA’s headquarters in Cassis.
This renewal can occur on the next working day following the cessation of the cyclone-related work stoppage, allowing for a grace period, during which no penalties will be levied.
Basically, it is essential to remind that under Article 22 of the Road Traffic Act, all vehicle and trailer owners are legally obliged to renew their automobile sticker (MVL) within 15 days of its expiry.
Failure to adhere to this deadline could lead to serious legal repercussions.
Moreover, for those unable to renew within this critical timeframe, a substantial surcharge of 50% will be imposed on the prescribed tax for any MVL renewals processed after the 15-day grace period.
The NLTA urges all motorists to take heed of this communication and ensure their compliance to avoid unnecessary penalties.
