Former Attorney General Gobin appeared before the South Port-Louis District Court on Friday, 28 February, where he was granted conditional release following his provisional charge of “Public Official Using Office for Gratification” under Section 7(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Remarkably, no objections were raised against him during the proceedings.
To secure his release, Gobin was required to pay two sureties of Rs 250,000 each and to sign an acknowledgment of debt amounting to Rs 5 million.
This inquiry delved into allegations involving a staggering Rs 3.5 million in bribery related to the leasing of 350 acres of land in Grand-Bassin, earmarked for the Eco Deer Park Association.
