As the island is bracing itself for a Class 3 cyclone, under the looming threat of Cyclone Garance, the police in Pointe-aux-Sables were alerted on Wednesday 26 February evening to a grim discovery. A lifeless body had been found on the Coastal Road, near a site owned by Mauritius Telecom, close to the Fisheries offices.

The victim has been identified as 64-year-old Sunilduth Boodhoo, a local resident who worked as a security guard.

A fellow colleague was the first to report the disturbing sight to the authorities.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Boodhoo lying on his left side, dressed only in his trousers, a wound visible on his forehead, and showing no signs of life.

Emergency services, already alerted by security personnel, swiftly arrived on the scene.

The attending physician confirmed the tragic death and instructed that the body be taken to the SSRN hospital morgue for an autopsy, which will seek to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding this tragedy.

Law enforcement has cordoned off the area, with officers stationed to keep watch. At this early stage in the investigation, there is no indication of foul play.
