At Plaisance Airport: 55 kg of cannabis seized, 2 Thai nationals arrested

On Tuesday, 25th February, customs officials at Plaisance Airport intercepted a staggering 55 kilograms of cannabis, valued at a shocking Rs 66 million. The illicit cargo was hidden within the luggage of two young Thai women, who had arrived in Mauritius for what they had presumably anticipated to be a relaxing holiday.
The pair landed on a flight that had made a stopover in Dubai, only to find themselves at the centre of a drug trafficking investigation.
Officials managed to recover around one hundred packets filled with the banned substance from their suitcases.
The duo, caught red-handed by the dedicated team from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS), has since been handed over to the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) for further questioning.
Meanwhile, the drug squad is actively pursuing leads that may connect the suspects to local accomplices in this worrying affair.
