School Bullying & Cyberbullying - "Break the Silence!"

Arianne Navarre-Marie, the Minister for Gender Equality and Family Welfare, has made a heartfelt appeal to young people and victims of bullying, whether at school or on online platforms like Telegram, urging them to speak out.

“Last Tuesday, I attended the funeral of a 15-year-old girl, a school student who tragically took her own life.

I met her parents and loved ones, all of whom are deeply affected by this unimaginable sorrow,” she stated, her voice heavy with emotion.

According to the minister, this tragic incident represented only “the tip of the iceberg.”

Since this heart-wrenching event, she has received numerous accounts from parents and children describing similar experiences.

“We are not just discussing school bullying; this is also extending to intimidation and cyberbullying on Telegram,” she added, highlighting the widespread nature of the issue.

In light of the severity of the situation, Arianne Navarre-Marie insists that the government is taking these matters very seriously.

“Just last Friday, my advisors and I submitted a report to the police concerning the troubling activities on Telegram.

My colleagues, the ministers of Education and Digital Technologies, are equally committed to addressing this issue,” she emphasized.

The minister urged young people, students, and anyone who feels they are victims of bullying to break the silence.

“If you are being bullied, whether at school by a peer or online via Telegram, please come forward.

We will take the necessary actions,” she assured them, calling for action to protect the vulnerable.
