Water Shortages: 6,000 Households to Receive Tanks Under Revamped Scheme

Households across the country can look forward to a much-needed boost as the Water Tank Scheme returns from 1 March 2025. The eligibility rules have been relaxed, making it easier for people to access this vital resource.
Launched by the Ministry of Energy and Public Services, the scheme aims to ease the pressure from water shortages by providing water tanks and pumps.
In a significant change, the scheme will now also support tenants, not just homeowners. This opens up opportunities for many more families to benefit from these essential resources.
The new plan is set to reach more households than ever before, with a simplified application process. Applicants will no longer need to show a utility bill to prove their address, removing a barrier that has previously prevented many from getting help.
Under the revamped scheme, 6,000 households earning up to Rs 60,000 a month will receive the much-needed water tanks and pumps. The Development Bank of Mauritius will provide the funding, ensuring the scheme is rolled out swiftly and effectively.
