Tropical Depression Expected Near the Mascarenes from 25th February

A significant weather system has been forecasted to approach the Mascarenes, with a tropical depression anticipated to form to the northwest of Mauritius starting Tuesday, 25th February. This alarming prediction is from the Vacoas Meteorological Station, which issued a detailed bulletin on Saturday, 22nd February.
As stated in their ‘Weather Outlook’, the prevailing monsoon flow is creating unstable and humid atmospheric conditions, ripe for the development of active cloud formations over the region.
Current analyses and numerical weather models indicate the likelihood of a tropical depression forming, which could draw closer to the islands.
The meteorologists warned that this system may strengthen further, potentially passing near Mauritius on Wednesday, 26th February.
However, the situation remains fraught with uncertainty concerning both the intensification and trajectory of this tropical system, as emphasised by the meteorological service, which is closely monitoring developments.
In the meantime, locals should brace for deteriorating weather conditions beginning in the early part of next week.
Forecasts are suggesting scattered showers alongside isolated thunderstorms starting from Sunday, 23rd February, and continuing through to Monday, 24th February.
From the morning of Tuesday, 25th February, the frequency and intensity of rainfall are expected to increase, with thunderstorms worsening throughout the day.
As night falls on Tuesday, expect a substantial decline in weather stability, with increased wind activity becoming evident.
Initially blowing from the north at around 30 km/h, the winds will strengthen, reaching an average speed of approximately 45 km/h by nightfall, with gusts potentially soaring to 90 km/h.
Residents of the Mascarenes are advised to stay informed and prepared as the situation evolves.
