Recounting the recent events, Chandradeo (known as Nitish) Oomah has shed light on the circumstances surrounding one of the suitcases that his employer, Josian Deelawon, claims is tied to Pravind Jugnauth. Employed by Deelawon, a businessman with interests in tourism, hospitality, and travel, Oomah clarified at the Financial Crime Commission (FCC) that he was completely unaware of the contents of the suitcase and handbag his boss had handed over to him.

Oomah revealed that he received instructions to safeguard one of these suitcases as early as January 2025.

He could not possibly have suspected that the suitcase contained a staggering Rs 5.5 million, alongside documents belonging to the Jugnauth couple, as he stated during his testimony at the FCC, accompanied by his lawyer, Me Neil Pillay.

As a driver at the travel agency My Holidays, Oomah expressed that he was merely fulfilling a favour for his employer by keeping one of the suitcases on request.

Approximately two months after Devianee Ramchurn allegedly delivered the bags to the My Holidays office in Pointe-aux-Canonniers, Deelawon sought to divide the substantial sum of money, which he links to former friends, the Jugnauths.

“Since January, Josian has entrusted me with the suitcase to keep,” Oomah recounted during the hearing.

He described how he stashed one of the suitcases securely in his bedroom, on the first floor of his home.

However, everything changed on Friday, February 14th, when, upon his arrest by the police, he was taken aback by the shocking revelation of the suitcase’s contents.

“My boss gave this to me to keep; I trusted him completely,” he admitted, clearly shaken.

Oomah confessed that he hadn’t even paused to contemplate what the suitcase might contain, owing to his unwavering faith in Deelawon.

He explained how he had placed the suitcase alongside his own luggage, stating, “I kept that suitcase with my bags at home.”

According to Oomah, the suitcase remained locked and secured, and when the police arrived on Saturday-15th February, he showed them the suitcase but insisted he could not open it as he did not possess the keys.

The authorities continue to unravel the tangled web surrounding the significant haul, complicity and its implications for those involved.
