Urgent Order to Remove Illegal Structures on Île-aux-Bénitiers

The Ministry of Lands and Housing has issued a stark ultimatum to all boaters and traders operating on Île-aux-Bénitiers: ‘remove your illegal structures or face legal consequences’. This directive, published in accordance with the State Lands Act and dated 18th February, demands that all wooden structures and those covered with tarpaulin, along with personal belongings, be removed within a mere seven days.

Failure to comply will lead to immediate legal actions, a stark warning to those who have turned this beautiful island into a scene of ecological devastation.

The urgency of this order came in light of alarming environmental damage reported by the ministries of Lands and Environment.

Minister Shakeel Mohammed has highlighted that these dire conditions can be traced back to illegal activities taking place on the island.

In response, he is considering implementing new regulatory measures designed to prevent any further harm to the environment.

This decisive action follows the troubling findings of an inter-ministerial committee, which revealed the existence of 171 illegal structures marring the landscape of Île-aux-Bénitiers.

The coalition of ministries involved spans Lands, Agro-Industry, Blue Economy, Tourism, and Environment, illustrating the seriousness of the situation.

As the deadline looms, the call to restore the natural beauty of Île-aux-Bénitiers has never been more urgent.

A reminder that our environment must be safeguarded for the preservation of our heritage to future generations.
