Josian Deelawon and Chandradeo Oomah were granted bail by the Pamplemousses Court on Thursday, 20th February 2025, amidst a hush of anticipation, as no objections were raised by the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC). Presiding Magistrate Neela Ramdewor Naugah laid down a series of stringent conditions for their release.

Both Deelawon and Oomah are required to pay a hefty bail amount of Rs 300,000 each and to sign a bond of Rs 5 million.

They are expressly forbidden from contacting or interfering with any witnesses involved in this escalating case.

Furthermore, they must remain readily accessible to FCC investigators, providing the authorities with their mobile phone numbers in advance.

For court’s monitoring, the two men must reside at a fixed address and report daily to the nearest police station from 6 AM to 9 PM.

This investigation into alleged money laundering, spearheaded by the FCC, arose from alarming discoveries linked to Oomah and his superior, the businessman Josian Laval Deelawon.

The revelations stemming from Deelawon’s statements have even led to the arrest of former Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.

Devianee Ramchurn, the deputy mayor of Vacoas/Phoenix, has also found herself embroiled in this deepening scandal, having been apprehended in connection with the same inquiry.
