MRA Disburses Nearly Rs 400 Million for 14th-Month Bonus
The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) has announced it has paid out nearly Rs 400 million to employers under the 2024 special allowance scheme, commonly known as the 14th-month bonus. The announcement was made in a statement released on Tuesday, 18 February.
A total of 9,441 applications for assistance with the 14th-month bonus have been received by the MRA.
Of these, 5,072 applications have been approved.
This has allowed eligible businesses to receive the financial aid directly into their bank accounts.
The MRA has disbursed a total of Rs 399.8 million so far.
Employers can apply for the bonus online via the MRA website (www.mra.mu) using their Employer Registration Number (ERN) and password.
Once applications are processed and the 2024 special allowance declaration is submitted, funds are released.
Recent legislative changes have broadened the scope of eligibility.
In addition to private sector businesses, charities, NGOs registered with the National Social Inclusion Foundation, religious associations, and trade unions are now eligible for the assistance.
Companies with a turnover of up to Rs 750 million during the 2023/2024 assessment year are also eligible.
This includes sectors such as Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), security, cleaning, and construction.
The amount of financial assistance provided depends on the financial situation of the employer:
- Accounting loss or a profit decrease of more than 50%: The special allowance is fully covered.
- Profit decrease between 10% and 50%: The MRA covers 50% of the special allowance paid to employees.
- The aid is exclusively for full-time employees.
