Mauritius, Japan Forge Education Partnership: Scholarships, Training on the Table

A meeting between Education Minister Mahend Gungapersad and Japanese Ambassador Masahiro Kan could lead to big changes in Mauritian education.
The officials met at the Ministry of Education offices to discuss potential collaborations, including:
- Scholarships for Mauritian students to study in Japan.
- Short-term training programs for Mauritian teachers in Japan.
“They will learn Japanese best practices, such as discipline and respect,” said Minister Gungapersad. “Our officials will also learn the Kaizen philosophy.”
Ambassador Kan said Japan is keen to strengthen its partnership with Mauritius in education, culture, and sports.
“We discussed student exchange programs and training initiatives,” Kan said.
Gungapersad highlighted Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam’s high regard for Japan, emphasizing that they were exploring new ways to work together in education and human resources. Existing exchanges in sports and culture were also mentioned.
The Ministry of Education also plans to translate Japanese literature to share Japanese culture and knowledge.
