A routine road check on Sunday morning led to a shocking discovery in Providence, leaving a bus full of passengers shaken and delayed.
At around dawn, a bus driver was pulled over during a police road check, with 40 passengers on board. The driver, a 38-year-old man from Valetta, was acting suspiciously and was subsequently administered a drug test.
The results revealed that the driver had tested positive for opium, a controlled substance. The owner of the bus company was summoned to the scene and witnessed the incident.
The 40 passengers were forced to disembark and transfer to a replacement bus, delaying their journey to Flacq. The police investigation is ongoing and no further details have been released.
Impaired driving is a serious offense, putting the lives of innocent passengers at risk. Authorities are urging drivers to prioritise road safety and refrain from using substances that can impair driving abilities.
