In a stunning crackdown on suspected financial wrongdoing, the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) struck gold on Saturday-15 February, confiscating a staggering fortune from not one, but two locations in Mauritius. The daring operation, which unfolded in the areas of Terre-Rouge and Pointe-aux-Canonniers, yielded a massive haul of cash, primarily in foreign currencies, concealed within four unsuspecting suitcases.

As the authorities painstakingly counted the spoils, the scale of the seizure began to sink in.

Although the exact figure remains under wraps, Defi Media sources close to the investigation confirmed that the amount runs into several millions of rupees.

The painstaking process of tallying the cash continued well into the afternoon, with officials working tirelessly to uncover the full extent of the haul.

But the operation was not merely about seizing illicit funds; it also led to the arrest of two high-profile individuals.

Josian Laval Deelawon, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a prominent tourism company, and his right-hand man, Oomah Chandradeo, also known as Nitish, serving as the company’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), were both taken into custody.

As the investigation gathers momentum, the Financial Crimes Commission has taken the reins, with experts poring over the evidence to unravel the intricate web of financial dealings that led to this extraordinary seizure.

The dramatic events of Saturday – 15 February marked a significant milestone in the fight against financial crime, and the people of Mauritius will eagerly await the outcome of this gripping saga.

One thing is certain, however: the net is tightening, and those who seek to flout the law will be brought to justice.
